Spread the Word Saturday
1. Consumption - What did you consume today?
Water: 3 glasses, 6 minute shower, handwashes and toilet flushes, brushed my teeth
Food: Toast for breakfast; Croissant and chocolate milk for lunch; Pasta for dinner
Electricity: Lights in my room
Gasoline: bus and in the car for half an hour
Money: None
2.Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
I was able to cut back on my food consumption yet again and I also didn’t spend any money. I was at work all day and then went out at night so I didn’t spend any time on the computer or watched tv. I liked not using the computer and tv for two days because it gave me a chance to do other things.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples
This project has taught me how to cut back on things I don’t need, and this lesson will definitely affect me for the long term. For example, I intend to continue taking shorter showers and spend less time on the computer and watching tv. Also, I want to cut back on eating junk food and spending money on it. I still do not know exactly what its like to live in a third world country, and I don’t think I’ll ever really know. But at least I’ve become more aware of what people have to face, and what I can do to help.

I’ve learned that other people have had similar experiences to mine. They’ve had the same realization that they should be living a different lifestyle. Our class can continue to spread the word by making others read our tumblr page and maybe having other schools participate in a similar experience.
Foodless Friday
1. Consumption - What did you consume today?
Water: 4 glasses, 6 minute shower, handwashes and toilet flushes, brushed my teeth
Food: toast for breakfast; ham sandwich and an apple for lunch; cinammon raisin bagel with butter for dinner
Electricity: Just used lights in my room
Gasoline: bus and was in the car for 20 minutes
Money: Spent money for the hyptonist show and my bagel.
2.Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
I had an accomplished Foodless Friday! I ate a lot less than I normally do, especially for dinner. I was able to resist overeating during lunch and dinner. Although I did spend money on the bagel, it was a much better option than what I usually have. Also, Friday I made the decision not to go on the computer because I wouldn’t have any homework. I also didn’t watch tv and didn’t use any other electricity besides the lights in my room.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples
Cutting back on my food consumption could be made for the long term. I felt good because I ate smaller and healthier portions of food. Also not watching tv could be a change for the long term.
4. Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions because of this?
I’ve learned that other people were successful in cutting back on what they eat. This makes me feel like our class has accomplished a lot.

Food: Waffles and orange juice for breakfast; peanut butter and jelly sandwich and an apple for lunch; hamburger, fries, and broccolli for dinner.
Water: 4 glasses of water, 6 minute shower, handwashes and toilet flushes, brushed my teeth
Electricity: Lights in my house, computer, tv
Gasoline: Train and bus to and from school.
Money: I didn’t spend any!
2.Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
Today, during lunch, I was able to cut back on what I eat. I didn’t spend any money on junk food, so I ate healthier. Also, I took a short shower. It wasn’t as short as my five minute shower yesterday because I was feeling lazy and spent an extra minute…But tomorrow, I’m going to try to be only five minutes. I also didn’t spend a lot of time watching tv or going on social networking sites on the computer.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples
I can see myself for the long term taking shorter showers and spending less time on the computer. Instead of wasting my time in the shower, or on the computer, I’ve been using my extra time productively by getting started on homework early. Also, I can see myself trying, but not always succeeding in eating a healthier diet.
4. Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions because of this?
I notice that pretty much everyone has cut back on their food. I mentioned this yesterday too. I’m just really surprised that people are able to do this so easily, while I’m strugging with it because I love food so much. But in honor of Food Friday tomorrow I’m going to not spend any money on junk food, and try to make my diet completely healthy.
Waterless Wednesday
1. Consumption - What did you consume today?
Water: 3 glasses, 5 minute shower, few handwashes and toilet flushes, brushed my teeth.
Food: 2 waffles with butter for breakfast; pizza, chips, and chocolate milk for lunch; rice, broccolli, and chicken nuggets for dinner.
Electricity: Lights in my room, computer, tv.
Gasoline: Train and buses.
Money: I spent money on my lunch.
2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
I’m very proud of myself because I was in the shower for only 5 minutes (!!!) instead of my usual ten. I did this, because yesterday I set this goal for myself. So I’ve finally cut my showering time in half. Also, I continued my strategy of avoiding the computer for as long as possible, which worked.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples
I can envision myself continuing these short showers. I can help the environment and help my family get a lower water bill, since my water consumption will be cut in half. I can also continue avoiding going on the computer so I can spend less time on social networking websites.
4. Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions because of this?
I’ve noticed on tumblr that people are cutting down on how much food they eat, which I’m having trouble with. I like to eat, and if I have money I’ll spend it on whatever food is around me. Tomorrow, I’ll try to buy less food, and eat healthier.
Try Harder Tuesday
1. Consumption - What did you consume today?
Water: 3 glasses of water, 7 minute shower, few handwashes and toilet flushes, and brushed my teeth.
Food: An orange for breakfast; slice of pizza, an apple, and a cookie for lunch; carrots, chicken, and spinach ravioli for dinner.
Electricity: I used the computer for homework in the evening. I didn’t spend too much time on social networking sites when I was on it. Also, I watched tv for about an hour and had some lights in my house on.
Gasoline: I took the bus to and from school, and I was in the car for about twenty minutes.
Money: I spent some money during lunch on pizza and a cookie that I didn’t need to spend…
2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
I cut down by avoiding the computer again! I didn’t go on it until the evening. Also I’ve cut down on my water by drinking less and taking less time in the shower.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.
I can cut down on my social networking permanently by avoiding going on the computer. Today, I had trouble resisting snacks. I bought some junk food during lunch, instead of just bringing some food from home. Tomorrow, I’ll try harder to not spend money on food I don’t need.
4. Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions because of this?
I’ve learned that a lot of people are cutting down on their water usage, especially in the shower. I think I’ll make more of an effort to follow their example, and take less time in the shower. Also, people are concentrating on eating less, so I’ll try to eat a healthier and smaller diet.
Money Monday
1. Consumption - What did you consume today?
Water: 3 glasses of water, 7 minute shower, washed hands, flushed toilet, brushed teeth
Food: Pancakes for breakfast, PB&J sandwich and an apple for lunch, macaroni and cheese, broccolli, and fish for dinner.
Electricity: I was only on social networking sites for about a half an hour and that’ll be my only time spent on it today. I had to use the computer for homework and college stuff, which means I will be on it for a few hours. I didn’t watch any tv and I tried keeping my lights off when I wasn’t using them.
Gasoline: It was warm out today so I tried to keep the heat off in my house. I didn’t drive anywhere, but I took the bus to and from school.
Money: I didn’t spend any money today. I was able to resist buying any snacks during lunch and afterschool.
2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?
I had a successful Money Monday because I didn’t spend any money. This is a big improvement for me because I usually spend a few dollars everyday on junk food. So this experiment is helping me save money and get a better diet. Also, I used what I learned yesterday, and stayed away from social networking sites for most of the day. This helped me get a jumpstart on my homework.
3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.
I want to continue cutting back on the amount of money I spend on junk I don’t need. I think I can do this by not bringing a lot of money to school, so I won’t be tempted to spend it all on food. Also, I want to continue cutting back on my time spent on social networking sites. I’ve been pretty successful with this by avoiding them until about six or seven. This has helped me start my homework earlier and stay focused when I’m working on stuff on the computer.
4. What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions as a result of their post?
I’ve learned that everyone has a different interpretation of this project. Some people are taking it very seriously, while others are finding small ways they can participate in the project. I think its more important to find small ways to cut back, so that people aren’t making drastic changes to their lifestyles. I learned that a small way to cut back on heat is by wearing layers, and to cut back on social networking by avoiding it for as long as possible.
Social Networking Sunday
1. Consumption:
Water - I had a few glasses of water, 8 minute shower, some handwashes, brushed my teeth.
Food - Blueberry muffin for breakfast, pizza for lunch, an apple for a snack, spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.
Electricity - Charged my ipod, some tv and computer.
Gasoline - I was in the car today for about 20 minutes.
Money - I didn’t spend any!
2. Reduction
Today, I cut back on my time spent on the computer. I didn’t actually go on the computer until I had to go on Tumblr to post this. But then I got distracted and went on Facebook and Youtube for a while. But the fact that I didn’t go on the computer until this evening is a big improvement. I also tried to cut down my time spent in the shower and how much water I drink.
3. Sustainability
I could continue to reduce my social networking, by just avoiding going on the computer if theres no reason for me to be on it. My time spent away from the computer was used productively so I definitely want to continue doing this.
A social experiment, can we give up the unnecessary comforts of a 1st world lifestyle?
